The wonderful world of Grotta dei Cervi
✶ Who were the shamans and what did they do in Grotta dei Cervi? ✶ Why did tribes use to meet in this cave? ✶ What is the meaning of the spiralling drawings? ✶ And of the diamond-shaped ones? ✶ What do quadrangular drawings tell us? ✶ Why so many child handprints? ✶ What is an initiation rite?
In-depth elaboration of the activity carried out in the exhibition. Students are introduced to analysis and understanding of the paintings, to the discovery of the society that produced such paintings, having a first approach to interpretative methodologies and problems. This activity offers the chance to get to know the most complex and articulated artistic heritage of the late European prehistory, kept in the dark corridors of this cave, thus exalting its documentary uniqueness which is worth the definition of “Human Heritage”.

Salento’s geosites
✶ When was Salento born and how did it change in the geological ages? ✶ Was it really submerged by the sea? ✶ Why do we find marine fossils in the Lecce stone? ✶ What are superficial groundwater and the deep carsic groundwater? ☺ How do grottoes form? ✶ How can a geologist know so many things? ✶ What are geosites and where are the most important ones?
Studied to be an in-depth elaboration for the school projects about territory and environment, this activity, with languages and strategies targeted for the different age ranges, introduces the students to the knowledge of Salento’s geologic formations and sites bearing their traces: geosites are important for the reconstruction of geological events and for their landscape and cultural value.

Art and Crafts in Prehistory
✶ What is art and which Man is its author? ✶ Were there in prehistory artistic styles and waves? ✶ Which are the meanings of prehistoric art? ✶ Which places are bound to prehistoric art in Salento?
In-house elaboration connected to the activity in the exhibition areas. Video-presentation of drawing documents, techniques and styles, illustrates palaeolithic parietal art furniture art, presenting interpretative hypotheses and introduces to the analysis of the marks left by men on grottoes’ walls, stones and bones, as well as ornamental objects and ritual and ornaments of daily and ritual objects.

The first Farmers
✶ Which are the places of the very first agriculture and which were the first vegetal species? ✶ How did the neolithic men cultivate the crops? ✶ Why did they invent ceramics? ✶ Where are the most ancient villages of Salento located and how were they organized?
In-depth elaboration of the activity carried out in the exhibition.
The aim is to arouse an observation of the long maturation of processes, generally perceived as “basic” yet crucial in the start and achievement of one of the most important stages in the history of mankind: the coming of productive economies, which modified – sometimes irreversibly . the natural environments. Understanding the complex innovation represented by the birth of agriculture offers a key to the assessment of the human progresses in time, together with the ideological and political implications and the ecological consequences which originated from that initial moment of territory exploitation.

Museum for Tourism
✶ What is the cultural heritage of a territory? ✶ How to make a cultural-tourist offer ✶ How can we promote a museum and who can do it?
Through the elaboration of themes relevant to cultural heritage, organisation of the offers, the choice of languages, museum management and marketing and group discussions on the topics examined, we aim to offer some guidelines for a tourist offer of a quality cultural set.
