Civic Museum of Palaeontology and Palaeo-ethonology “Decio de Lorentiis”. Awls. Bone.
Neolithic.
Awls on long small sized animal bone, with carefully ground edges and reduced at the end to a small pointed tip.
The function of these objects must have been varied, according to the circumstances. Apart from being used as perforating instruments for soft and/or organic materials, they were used for incision and impression decoration on pottery and maybe also in the textile activity which started with the Neolithic.
