Civic Museum Paleontology and Palaeo-ethonology “Decio de Lorentiis”. Bos
primigenius, fragmentary horn. Riss-Würm interglacial period. 120-80,000 years.
The findings belong to the median and distal zone of a horn of Bos primigenius or Aurochs, a large extinct wild bovine, very common in Europe starting from the Gunz-Mindelm interglacial period, also represented in various cave drawings of the Palaeolithic period, for example in the paintings of Lascaux and Livernon, in France and in a graffito of Grotta Romanelli in Castro. The last specimen of Bos primigenius seen, a female, was killed in 1627 in the forest of Jaktoròw, in Poland.
