dust, cockerel. Bronze. Ashanti craft. 14th – 19th century
The cockerel, the symbol of the Ashanti ethnos, is also present on small objects like weights for gold dust. The iconography is rather rigid. The animal puts its legs on a small circular base; the details are engraved, concentric semi-circles for the wings, vertical lines for the tail.
